Fat Joe Fails to Break 10K on Charts Debut, Jay-Z Goes Platinum
Several independent releases debuted on the Billboard 200 sales chart this week, including new discs by Fat Joe and Saigon.
Joey Crack’s ninth solo album, J.O.S.E. 2, landed at the no. 73 spot in his first week. The LP, which faced several pushbacks due to sample clearances and lack of promotion, features appearances by Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Akon, Lil Kim, Raekwon, Swizz Beatz, Ron Browz, and Pleasure P among others. Overal the CD sold 8,300 copies since hitting shelves last Tuesday (October 6).
Fellow NY rapper, Saigitty, landed almost 100 spots down at no. 170. Fans of the former Entourage star only picked up 3,100 units of his new street CD, Warning Shots 2.
The collaborative project between Harlemites Jim Jones and Webstar failed to crack the top 200 in their debut week. The duo, known for their hit “Dancing on Me” sold about 2,400 copies of The Rooftop this sales cycle.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z continues his reign at the top of the charts. The Brooklyn legend sold an additional 64,800 units this week, which earned The Blueprint 3 a no. 5 spot. After five weeks the disc has finally gone platinum, with his official stats standing at 1,061,600.
The Black Eyed Peas stay strong at no. 23 this week. The group, who have been on the charts for 18 weeks, sold 25,500 copies of The E.N.D. this go-round. The CD has a tally to 1,195.00.
Five slots down at no. 28 is T.Dot rep Drake. The Young Money rapper’s So Far Gone EP moved an additional 21,100 units this week, bringing Drizzy’s total to 162,300.
Next week, look for Snoop Dogg’s Lost Sessions LP and Mario’s new CD to appear on the Billboard 200.

Re: Fat Joe Fails to Break 10K on Charts Debut, Jay-Z Goes Platinum
independent is the way to go, if fat joe get all his royalties (which im sure he not cause wayne n baby got the best record deal with 20 80 and the 20 is for distribution only lol)
8000cds sold at roughly 10 bucks a pop
you make $80,000
80% of that is $64,000
fat joe needs to just give it up though lol
and when jay z says numbers dont lie... yes they do...
Slaughterhouse album flopped in regards to sales...
but in regards to HIP HOP MUSIC? its fucking damn near a classic
these fucking COMPANIES promote who what when where they damn well please
they trying to make a bottom line profit, not make good music

Re: Fat Joe Fails to Break 10K on Charts Debut, Jay-Z Goes Platinum
Album was Garbage. Sounded rushed. only good track was Hey Joe. & its completely different on the album due to sample clearance. the original that came out was the better version.
But not only that it sounded rushed.. it was also lack of promotion. that hurt him bad. real bad.
Thank you very much for saying this... YAHOOOOOO!!!!
Numbers don't lie. Numbers is a fact. You sayin its a classic is an opinion. & at the end of the day, your opinion don't mean shit. neither does mine. nore anyone else's. I got into an argument about this a couple weeks ago. buddy said NAS Was the best MC ever. Im like ok.. thats your opinion. everyones not gunna feel the same way. Yes NAS is lyrical. but the best? no. Hes not consistent. he came.. he went.. than came back & dropped another ablum & still think hes the best? nahh cant do that. Legends come & go & Facts prove that. Go look it up
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_worldwide
Not 1 Hip Hop album. The only thing that comes close is Usher. lmao. & thats dead last.
Now there was another list... I forgot what i searched. but had Em & Jay.. So by facts..
1. Em
2. Jay Z
3. Wayne
I say wayne because of the carter 3 sales.. yes thats nothing compared to what jay & em sold but who else did 5 mill in the last what... 6-7 years? lmaoo
So what im tryin to say is. what you think is the best is just your opinion. You have to go by Album Sales, because thats the only source of facts. What because DJ Khaled says Rick Ross is the best? Hes the best rapper? no thats his opinion.. thats not a fact.
Its not just about promotion, Make better music. Stop putting out trash.

I Agree Somewhat But Opinions Are Opinions So Yeah You're Right About That But Album Sales Don't Necessarily Mean You're The Best Well At Least Not Anymore LMAO!!! Just Like Detroit Said Slaughterhouse Had One Of The Best Albums This Year But Didn't Move Many Album Sales So In Retrospect You Could Be The Best & Still Not Sale Records. Album Sales Come From Great Promotion & Hit Singles & High Anticipation (Sometimes).... Album Sales Now Mean You're Still Consistent, Gucci Mane May Move Many Units When He Drops An Album Because His Buzz Is Hot Right Now, That Don't Make Him The Best Does It????? Also The Generation Of Music Is Constantly Changing & The Rappers Who We Think Are The Best Now May Not Be 5 Yrs. From Now..........

I agree with all of you, but I'd have to agree more with UnReal.. the "best" can only be PROVEN FACT by stats. what makes a million people want to buy one album and not the other? something about that artist must be better than the next because he's selling more, thus according to a million+ people, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem etc etc is better than Slaughterhouse, Raekwon, etc etc... or, some people feel as though John McCain would make a better president than Obama, but at the end of the day the numbers say otherwise. NUMBERS aka FACTS overrule OPINION every single time

Re: Fat Joe Fails to Break 10K on Charts Debut, Jay-Z Goes Platinum
but what about Drake? he came in the game with nothing but his fans and he's killing the game. he doesn't have major promotion behind his record but he's almost at 200,000 sales..
one thing we yall fail to realize is that the music is run by the people. WE sign artists, WE promote artists, WE run this business. record companies only put money behind the people WE want to hear. you didn't hear the streets and the internet going crazy talking about when Slaughterhouse's album was about to drop.. you heard everyone talking about when is Jay-Z's album coming out. or when is Lil Wayne's next project dropping. the fans are the ones that have control of the music industry. we need to stop blaming the companies and start blaming the "fans".

I must of missed the part of Jay-Z going platinum...well god damn, he's the first to do it after wayne

You Always Agree More With Unreal What Else Is New But You Talkin' About Artists Who Have Already Developed A Fanbase. These Artists Already Have Millions Of Fans Of Course They're Gonna Sell Records....

Drake has no album to show for it. so i don't see how he can be the best. He's off to a very good start but the best? nah. he shouldn't of even been on that list, same with Gucci. They should of separated the list. Indie & major. Just because you have a huge fan base doesn't mean your the best. you have to put in time & work. like wayne. wayne's got a lot of albums, Drake does not. Its understandable because hes new. He hasn't have time to get a album out obliviously. But you can't sit here & say hes the best. Hes got no history. What because your mixtape sold well, you think your the best?lol. thats like some new guy winning 1 race in nascar out of the 36 races each year & say hes the best. lmao
Re: Fat Joe Fails to Break 10K on Charts Debut, Jay-Z Goes Platinum
I understand where everyone coming from. But at the end of the day. you have to go by numbers. you have to. weather u agree or not. There's no other way to prove it. other than stickin 2 MC's on stage & battle it out, but as said. The Music Industry is always changing, & no one does thats shit no more, people don't really freestyle. So kiss that shit goodbye.
