Jazz Star Connie Haines Dies At The Age Of 87!!!!!!!
Jazz singer CONNIE HAINES has died at the age of 87. The 1940s star
died of myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disease, on Monday (22Sep08)
in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
Haines launched to stardom teaming up with Frank Sinatra as lead
vocalists with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra before moving on to forge a
solo career.
A top female band singer in her heyday, Haines was a regular at
nightclubs in New York's famed Latin Quarter, where she sang rhythmic
up-tempo tunes.
Her recordings included gospel, pop, soul and big-band numbers,
including hits You Might Have Belonged to Another, Will You Still Be
Mine? and Snootie Little Cutie. She recorded around 200 songs during
her lengthy career, including 24 records.
In addition to becoming a celebrated recording artist, the Georgia-born
star also made her mark on film and television, with her work on
Frankie Laine's variety show, and 1950 film Duchess of Idaho with
Esther Williams and Van Johnson.
Haines is survived by her sister, Barbara JaMais; her daughter,
Kimberly Harlan; her son, Robert DeHaven Jr., and her mother, Mildred
JaMais, who is 109.
