A killer who executed three men with a Mac-10 sub-machinegun in a
suburban bloodbath over a drug deal was jailed for at least 35 years
today.

Kevan Thakrar, 21, and his brother Miran, 24, forced Keith Cowell,
52, his son Matthew, 17, and a friend Tony Dulieu, 33, to kneel before
them to be shot.

Matthew's girlfriend Clare Evans, 23, was also stabbed six times while
protecting her three-year-old daughter, after Kevan ran out of bullets.

They were both convicted of three murders last month, when Miran
Thakrar was given three life terms with a minimum recommendation of 42
years.

At Southwark Crown Court today Mr Justice Cooke sentenced Kevan Thakrar
to three life terms and ordered he serve at least 35 years.

The judge said: 'This was a cold-blooded, pre-planned murder carried out in a savage manner.'

Thakrar showed no emotion on hearing his sentence.

After an initial cocaine deal infuriated Miran Thakrar, he set up a new
one at the Cowells' home 'to ensure all were there', the court was told.

Ian Jennings, 32, supplied the drugs and was driven with them to the
house by his mother Christine, Keith Cowell's sister, the court heard.
Matthew Cowell's girlfriend and her child, Courtney, were also at the
house.

The Thakrars were let into the house - but then pulled out the
machinegun and shouted: 'Get down on the floor and no one f***ing
move.'
Ian Jennings hid in the garden as the others were killed.

Miran Thakrar fled to Northern Cyprus the morning after the killings but was arrested when he returned to Britain.

Stuart Trimmer QC, prosecuting, said: 'The victims were shot while they
were unarmed and defenceless. The evidence is that it was a planned
execution.

'The reason for this assault is drug dealing. Disputes in this world are settled by violence.'

The other defendants in the case have already been sentenced.

Kevan's father Atul Thakrar, 47, also of Stevenage, was found guilty of assisting an offender and was jailed for four years.

Amanda Dansie, 21, of Buntingford, Hertfordshire, was also jailed for four years for assisting an offender.

Yilay Tufensoy, 21, of Enfield, was found guilty of assisting an offender and given a four-year sentence.

Kevan Thakrar was planning to join his brother in Cyprus bringing money
and clothes, but was arrested air-side at Heathrow Airport 10 minutes
before his plane was due to take off.

In a text message to his brother, Miran had written: 'Bring my phone,
my jeans and as much money as you can. I will pick you up from the
airport.'
