Newcomers The Knux Speak On Label Troubles

Newcomers The Knux are speaking to StreetCred.com about the troubles they faced in securing a major label deal.

The duo's Interscope debut "Remind Me In 3 Days..." hit stores in October but the road to the album was long and filled with failed label situations.

"...the guy we was dealin’ with over at Atlantic...they didn’t see the vision," says group member Rah Amillio. "They saw the fact they we could make money but they didn’t exactly get it. It’s not about the money with us...other labels got the vision and they didn’t really get the vision. They was willin’ to put money behind it – a lot of money at that but they didn’t really get the vision. They were like, “Oh it’s like the Neptunes, oh it’s like...” and they would just pass it off. They would rather just put money behind it and lump it with Neptunes or some other sound versus actually figuring out a way to break us as artists. They’d rather go off the energy of something else. Interscope is one of those labels that would actually work with an artist and make it make sense to the people versus, “Oh, ok let’s try and put it in this category and try to move it up.”

And while The Knux are happy with their label and debut album, there were hurdles to overcome in putting the album in stores.

"You have time slots to release stuff. Just workin’ on one album you might have like 12 different departments," says Krispy Kreme. "That’s the thing about bein’ on a major label...you can’t just release your sh*t when you want. You can’t be like, “I wanna go right now!” It doesn’t work like that because you got millions of dollars into these records and it’s basically a business. It never really frustrated us because we knew how to work the business. We knew the album wasn’t gonna come out until this year because of certain albums that were comin’ out last year; we were at a certain time slot. We finished mixing in August but were not gonna come out in the 4th quarter because you have this, this, and this comin’ out in the 4th quarter..."
