Tragedy on the roof of the world for honeymoon couple.

What should have been a dream honeymoon ended in tragedy for a newly-wed couple who were killed in the Nepal plane crash.

Nadine J. (31), a doctor, and engineer Thorsten B. (37) had just got
married in Braunschweig in Germany. For their honeymoon, they had
planned to fulfil their biggest dream: a trip to the Himalayas. But
they were among the 18 people who perished on the doomed aircraft,
among them another couple, Monika and Harry W. from Coesfeld in North
Rhine Westphalia.

Only the pilot survived, having suffered serious injuries.

The ill-fated trip began in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu. The twin-engine Twin Otter plane of Nepal
carrier Yeti Airlines was taking the adventurous mountaineers 150
kilometres closer to their destination. The German holiday-makers had
booked an 18-day trekking tour with a Munich travel agency, and were
planning to climb to almost 4,000 metres. The trip should have lasted
until October 22, and cost €2,160 per person.

In order to reach their destination, like every other group of
mountaineers hoping to climb Everest, the German group had to land in
Lukla at one of the most dangerous airports in the world. Lukla lies at
2,757 metres in mountainous terrain.

On the morning in question, weather conditions seemed perfect. Two
other aircrafts had already made a safe landing that day. However,
witnesses report that cloud and thick fog descended suddenly making a
safe landing very tricky. Despite this, the pilot decided to attempt a
daring manouevre in order to get his passengers on to the ground.

The drama began to unfold at 07.31 when the pilot was about to
land. The doomed aircraft lost altitude too quickly and crash landed,
hitting the perimeter boundary. It immediately burst into flames.
