Some Guy Got Engaged To Three Women At The Same Time!!!!!!! FUCKUPAYMEUNDERRATEDOVERWORKEDUNDERPAID

A charming conman swindled more than $60,000 out of three women
he proposed to at the same time - including a prison worker he met
while in jail, a court has heard.

Andrew Penfold was engaged to three women at once and even told one
he was an MI5 officer in order to lead the extraordinary triple life.

The smooth-talking 31-year-old also duped a number of other people and businesses and made nearly $100,000 out of the sting.

As well as a secret agent, Penfold posed as a banker, a company
director, a journalist, a member of the famous Penfold wine family, a
radar maker and a Lord in order to con his victims.

He was found out when creditors pursued his fiancees for unpaid debts.

Penfold, whose address was given in court as a caravan park near
Dorchester, admitted deception offences and was jailed for four years
at Dorchester Crown Court, Dorset.

His first victim, prison worker Emma Lightbawn, fell for Penfold, who
has a history of convictions for deception offences, while he was in
remand on jail.

He told her he had a property in affluent Sandbanks, Dorset, and in the months after his release he conned her out of $16,319.

Joanna Morrissey, prosecuting, said: 'He told her his parents owned a lighting company and he helped them run it.

'He said he had two shops he was selling and had a house on Sandbanks.
He said he was going to sell them so they could live together.

'He told her he was having difficulty obtaining funds from his off-shore accounts and asked her to take out a loan.

'She took out a loan for $10,000 and he said he'd pay her back. She
also hired a Volkswagen Golf car and paid for his insurance and a phone
bill.'

But while he was apparently preparing for their future together,
Penfold got engaged to two more victims he had found on singles
websites.

After wooing them, he proposed with cheap engagement rings he said were worth thousands, and then fleeced the women.

The second woman to fall victim to Penfold was office manager Clare Wildman.

He proposed to her and booked a $100,000 wedding before taking her for £30,000.

Miss Morrissey said: 'He said he was the owner of a company making radar for the English and French armies.

'He later told her he worked for MI5 and that was why sometimes he
would be away, but this was to cover for times when he was with Miss
Lightbawn.'

Penfold had Miss Wildman put a $2,000 deposit on a BMW car and pay for
the insurance because he 'didn't carry credit cards as he had so much
money.'

He then proposed to her and gave her a ring he said was worth $14,000, which was in fact worth less than $100, the court heard.

Smitten Miss Wildman bought him $1,000 cufflinks which he later pawned.

The third woman he duped, Lariza Bak, lost $14,837 after meeting him on an internet dating service.

Miss Morrissey said: 'He told her the story that he was part of a wine dynasty and that he was getting experience of real life.

'He proposed to her and she accepted and then he asked her for $25,000 for an engagement party. But she didn't get the loan.

'But she did purchase an Audi. However she became suspicious and hired a private investigator, but police then arrested him.'

In a victim impact statement Miss Lightbawn said: 'My trust in people has been destroyed and I'm now a virtual recluse.'

It wasn't just women who fell for his charms.

His previous cons included entertaining the entire cast of a pantomime
in a luxury hotel before doing a moonlight flit, leaving a restaurant
bill of $1,596.

On a trip to Italy, rotund Penfold 'blagged' his way onto Mirabella,
the largest single masted yacht in the world, and conned a crew member
into giving him $7,501.

As well as admitting offences relating to the three women, Penfold asked for 17 other offences to be taken into consideration.

Many of these were for staying in hotels then running off without paying the bill.

He used various aliases in the hotels, including the names of
Rothschild and two peers - mirroring a storyline in TV's Fawlty Towers
where Basil gets duped by a conman posing as Lord Melbury.

It was heard he had eight previous convictions for 30 offences, most of which were for obtaining services by deception.

Tim Shorter, defending, said his client had stolen under $100,000.

He said that Penfold had realised he had a problem because his crimes
were not just about making money, and most things he got were services.

Jailing him, judge Roger Jarvis said: 'I'm told that your view is that there is something wrong with you.

'What is wrong with you is that you are a cruel and unscrupulous fraudster.'

Penfold pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining property by
deception, one of obtaining services dishonestly and three of fraud.

The offences stretched from Dorset to Northampton and Cambridgeshire and were carried out between July 2006 and June 2007.
