West Coast Supergroup Attempting To Reform
In one of those cases where it sounds too good to be true, it turns out something might come to fruition. On nearly every Xzibit album, he has a track featuring west coast heavyweights Saafir and Rass Kass. After a lot of buzz online and in the press, X to the Z decided to make it official and pursue an album with the group. They were to be coined as the "Golden State Warriors".
And that is seemingly where the problems started. Not surprisingly, the NBA and basketball franchise shut down the name of the "Golden State Warriors" and filed an injunction against the group. This then forced the trio to change the name to the "Golden State Project". Unfortunately, after the naming issue was resolved, Rass Kass was sent to prison for several years on DUI charges and all plans were put on hold. On top of that, Saafir embarked on a personal journey of self reflection and left the game for awhile. And THENNNNN, X landed his gig with MTV and his stock rose because of the Pimp My Ride phenomenon.
Fast forward to 2008. Pimp My Ride has been canceled (or moved shows and has a new host, who knows), Rass Kass has been out for 2 years and was finally granted his release from Capitol Records and Saafir has returned to the rap game.
X to the Z is trying to corral the the soldiers and finally make this project a reality and starting to slowly release their unreleased tracks to help generate buzz in the project. While it's obvious the group won't get the shine they would have gotten in 2002, this is still going to be good for hip hop.
