The attacker who left a 15-year-old boy scarred for life after he
battered him to the ground with a single punch has been sentenced to
one year's detention.

Danny Hawkins, 16, boasted about how 'hard' he was on the social network site Bebo before attacking Jordan Hawkins at a party.

The attacker felled him with a single punch. Jordan, who is no relation, fell backwards and hit his head on the ground.

The youngster suffered brain damage, fell into a coma for seven days and had to have a section of his skull removed.

He now has to wear a special crash helmet to prevent further
injury. Beneath the helmet is a huge scar which runs from below his
right ear to the middle of his forehead which was held in place with 62
staples and eight stitches.

Exeter Crown Court heard that Jordan was at a house party in
Barnstaple, North Devon on December 15 last year when Danny Hawkins and
another man, Wade Harrison, 16, attacked him.

Prior to Danny Hawkins delivering his punch, Jordan had already been struck in the throat by Harrison.

Prosecutor Jonathan Barnes said: 'The injury has left Jordan totally
deaf in his left ear. He has had considerable problems at school, his
work has not been what it was before and there have been behavioural
difficulties.

'He is unable to return to his school for health and safety
reasons because of his exposed skull which is protected by him wearing
the crash helmet every time he goes out of his house.

Danny Hawkins, who had 18 previous convictions, including six assaults, admitted wounding by inflicting GBH.

He was given a one-year detention and training order by Recorder
Corinne Searle who said it was a 'violent crime' and lifted a ban on
naming the two young thugs.

Harrison was given an 18-month supervision order, six-month nighttime
curfew and a two-year ASBO banning him from Barnstaple town centre.

Afterwards Jordan said: 'My life has been turned completely upside down
since I sustained this injury. They have left me with a life sentence.'

His father Jim said: 'I think the sentences are absolutely disgusting.
They should have got a lot more. He nearly killed my son.'
