New York rapper Leonard Grant, artistically known as Uncle Murda, has been convicted of attempting to use a fraudulent California identification card at Los Angeles International Airport, the L.A. city attorney's office said today.

"It was a legitimate ID. But it was the ID of another individual," said Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney's office.

"He was trying to pass it off as his own. His motivation for doing so is unknown."

Grant, 27, pleaded "no contest" to one count of possession of a counterfeit ID, according to a statement from City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo's office.

"Commissioner Mark Zuckman sentenced Grant to 18 months probation and ordered him to perform 50 hours of community service," the statement said.

The case against Grant stems from a May 2008 incident when a screener at LAX examined an ID card presented by Grant and determined it was fraudulent, the city attorney’s office said.

When police investigated, they found that although the ID bore a photograph of Grant, the number belonged to another person. Police confiscated and destroyed the ID card, officials said.

Grant, who was reportedly grazed by a bullet as he sat in a parked car in Brooklyn in January 2008, is prohibited from possessing another individual's identity information without permission for the length of his probation.

The case against Grant was part of the city attorney's LAX Security Enhancement Initiative that was launched in March 2007, officials said.
